Ways to volunteer
If you are interested in volunteering, either for short term or long term projects, contact us at info@solaryouth.org.
Below is a list of the many ways individuals and groups can support our work and youth.
Come to us…
Tutoring
Form one-on-one relationships with our youth during after-school “homework help” times.
Service Projects
Work alongside youth as they TAKE ACTION to address issues they identify in their environment, such as clean-ups, trail work, (see article) ["A Bridge to Somewhere"], and more.
Skill Sharing
Do you have a specific skill you can share (Fix bikes? Write poetry? Carpentry)? Come host a workshop for our youth.
Or we can come to you
Teach Project Audience
Every season, youth do a “Teach Project” to educate others about their Community Service Action Project. Become an on-call audience for the youth – listening, asking questions, encouraging them, and showing them that their community cares about the work they do.
Shadowing/Mentoring
Give our youth an opportunity to dream about their future. Host a group of youth for a college or workplace tour, one-on-one conversations and shadowing, or a shared meal. Our youth need role models who believe that they can go far in life.
Or help from afar…
Fundraising events
Host a fundraising event for Solar Youth! Invite friends to a party and ask for contributions; host a happy hour where we give a short presentation about Solar Youth; create a Kick-ball Tournament (like we had in 2007).
Sponsor a Public Education Forum (PEF)
At the end of every season, our youth from across the city come together to creatively present what they learned and accomplished. Sponsor a PEF by supporting the cost for, or providing nutritious snacks for 100, and/or transportation to the venue. We will promote it in our invitations and social media. There you will enjoy youth’s songs, skits, videos and more! Show them that their community cares about their good work.
